Sun Spots (Solar Keratoses)

What we offer at Northern Dermatology

Sun Spot treatments include:

Topical treatments for solar keratosis

Numerous topical treatments are available for the treatments of solar keratosis (sun spots) on the face. Retrieve cream can be used for mild sun damage and the occasional solar keratosis. Picato gel and Aldara can be used for solar keratoses in localized areas when sun damage and sun spots are confined to the nose. Efudix cream can be used for the whole face or segments of the face for sun spots. This treatment results in moderate inflammation for up to 3 weeks. Photodynamic therapy with pretreatment with Efudix can be used for the whole face and results in inflammation persisting for up to 7 days.

Cryotherapy treatment for solar keratosis

Cryotherapy is the application of the gaseous vapor of liquefied nitrogen. This common treatment is useful for the treatment of isolated solar keratoses or for keratoses with adherent scale or scaly horns. The freezing of the skin results in a small blister which peels off over 1-2 weeks.
